Was It All Good A Week Ago?
One week ago I grasped a dream. I boarded a flight on a one-way ticket and decided to back-pack around Central and South America before heading to South Africa and beyond. Here are four thoughts I've had during the first seven days.
1. Duo Lingo lied. I am not 28% fluent in Spanish. Well, maybe I am 28% fluent in Duo-Lingo Spanish. I straight ace those online exercises. Regular, real life Spanish on the other hand? Nah. Truthfully, I wish real life people spoke in Duo Lingo speed. And only used Duo Lingo phrases. Ha! I'd be skating through the conversations. Bi-lingual FLI coming soon. Maybe. Probably. Wait, what now? #polyglot
2. Am I completely insane? Why did I abandon the sweet life I had set-up in the United States for hostels and work exchanges? Oh, that's right. All that glitters is not gold. My shimmery U.S. lifestyle (glitter) cost me valuable time and creative endeavors (not gold). I had to step beyond "fear" to truly live the life I deserve. #blessed
3. Someone at a hostel called me an anomaly: A back-packer with many things. I have TWO bags. FYI lady at the hostel, Two is a couple, not "many." Either way, I am "back-packing" on my own terms. My trip, my way. #Usher
4. De Pie means bullshit in Ingles. It is not a direct translation, but trust me, it means bullshit. More on this later. Promise. #puravida
This is a mini-recap of week one. Stay with me as I share the many treasures I discover and learn along the way. And by "many" I mean more than two. #shade
